Introducing Sarah Russo - AWGN South Australia Ambassador

The Australian Women’s Golf Network is proud to officially welcome Sarah Russo as our new South Australia Ambassador.

From the moment we connected with Sarah at the first event she attended, it was clear she embodied the warmth, authenticity and community spirit that sits at the heart of AWGN.

Sarah’s journey with golf began long before networking events and fairways became part of her adult life. Growing up in regional South Australia, she first discovered the game through SAPSASA (Primary School Sport) teams and weekends spent playing golf with her dad and older brother around the Barossa and Gawler region.

“Some of my favourite memories are playing the Gawler Par 3 with my dad on weekends and using one of our paddocks as a driving range with my older brother,” Sarah shares. “My dad really supported my golf journey from a young age and helped me build confidence in the game.”

Today, golf continues to play a powerful role in Sarah’s life - not just competitively or socially, but as a space for connection, confidence and community.

“I love that golf is something you can never completely master,” she says. “It challenges you mentally as much as physically, but it’s also one of the most social and rewarding sports. Some of the best conversations and connections I’ve made have happened walking fairways.”

That belief in the power of connection is one of the many reasons Sarah felt drawn to AWGN.

“What drew me to AWGN was that it created a dedicated space for women to explore their golf journey. Once I attended my first event, I immediately saw how welcoming and supportive the community felt.”

“AWGN is creating a space where women can enjoy golf without feeling intimidated - whether they’re complete beginners or lifelong players. I loved the idea of helping more women feel like they belong in the game.”

Beyond golf, Sarah brings a wealth of life experience, emotional intelligence and community-focused leadership to the Ambassador role. Having worked across a diverse mix of industries and community roles, she is passionate about creating environments where women feel genuinely welcomed, included and comfortable.

Motherhood has also profoundly shaped the way she approaches connection and community.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be a step-mum to two wonderful girls and recently welcomed my own daughter to our family,” Sarah says. “Motherhood has completely changed my perspective. It’s made me softer in some ways and stronger in others.”

She also speaks openly about the importance of vulnerability and sharing experiences honestly - something many women within the AWGN community will deeply relate to.

“Sometimes just knowing someone else has felt the same way can make things feel a little less overwhelming and a lot less isolating.”

As AWGN’s South Australia Ambassador, Sarah is excited to help grow a stronger, more inclusive women’s golf community across the state and create opportunities for women at every stage of their journey.

“I’d love to help create more casual and welcoming events that bring together women at all stages of golf - things like all-skills-friendly clinics, social golf days, mums-and-bubs walks, wellness experiences and opportunities for women to build confidence in the game without pressure.”

And for women considering giving golf a try for the very first time, her message is simple:

“You absolutely do not need to be good at golf to start playing golf. Everyone starts somewhere, and most women are looking for exactly the same thing you are - connection, fun and trying something new. Just give it a go.”

We’re incredibly excited to have Sarah joining the AWGN Ambassador team and can’t wait to see the impact she creates across South Australia 💚

Please join us in welcoming Sarah Russo to the AWGN family ✨
